St Dogmaels sent a ripple through the local soccer community over the weekend as they demolished Maesglas with a seven goal blitz.
After Llifon Hughes had given the visitors an early lead it seemed that they would march on to complete a memorable double over the current league champions. The Saints however, had different ideas. Johnny James soon brought them back on level terms and after Chris Jones and Steve Williams had exchanged goals before the interval they ran away with it in the second half.
Johnny James went on to complete his hat-trick which included one from the penalty spot whilst a goal apiece from Sam Orme, Chris Thomas and Lee Ladd completed the rout.
In another exciting clash New Quay had the upper hand over a Lampeter side that slipped to its third consecutive defeat.
The visitors had the perfect start when after three minutes when Bryn Evans having been upended in the penalty area by home defender Martin Hunter, slotted home the resulting penalty.
As the first half progressed there were chances at both ends. Both the Gudgeon brothers went close for the home side whilst Chris Atkinson was just wide with a well worked effort for New Quay.
It was Atkinson in fact who settled the issue some thirteen minutes into the second period when from a Mathew Mousley cross he was on hand to shoot past keeper Darren Gregson to clinch the points with his fourteenth goal of the season.
Cardigan continued their winning streak with a well worked win over Ffostrasol with a goal apiece for Ben Davies, Alun Williams and Peter Edwards. Mathew Jordan claimed the home side's consolation.
At the Square Field Aberaeron just had the edge over Llandysul in a seven goal thriller. Steffan Gruffudd netted twice in the first half whilst after the turnaround Gareth Lewis and substitute Ellis Daniels grabbed one each.
In the other game played Llanybydder moved into third place with a two goal victory over Dewi Stars. After the homesters had made most of the running in the first period goals from Jason Jones and Gareth Williams settled the spoils in the second half. |
